Before we get into setting up Automatic QR Codes let's understand how they work.
Overview
Automatic QR Codes are powered by Shopify Flow and can be generated for your Shopify Products, Collections, Orders, and Customers. You simply provide a destination URL, choose whether to use a short URL, and assign a title to the QR code.
How It Works
- When you request a QR code for the first time for a resource, a new QR code is created.
- If a QR code already exists for that resource, its title and destination are updated automatically.
- The QR code image (PNG and SVG) is saved to the relevant Shopify resource, so you can easily access and share it.
- Since the QR code itself remains unchanged, you can update its destination whenever needed—making it truly dynamic.
- If you enable the short URL option, the QR code will be linked to a concise URL (for example, grww.in/XXXXXX); otherwise, a full URL is used.
NOTE: Customers will see the "grww.in" domain when they scan the QR code if you choose to use a short url.
Supported Shopify Flow Actions
- Product QR Code: Automatically generate and update a QR code that takes customers to the product page.
- Collection QR Code: Create QR codes for entire collections, so customers can view related products instantly.
- Order QR Code: Generate QR codes included in order confirmations, allowing customers to track their orders.
- Customer QR Code: Use QR codes for personalized customer pages or loyalty programs.
Next, we’ll walk you through the steps to set up Automatic QR Codes using Shopify Flow. Enjoy the ease of dynamic, always-up-to-date QR codes!
Example: Automatic QR Code for Orders
When a new order is created, You can trigger the “Order QR Code” action from Shopify Flow. In this flow, you simply set the following inputs:
- QR Code Title: A friendly title for the QR code, ideally the order name.
- Destination URL: Order status page.
- Use Short URL: Optionally choose whether to generate a concise URL (like grww.in/XXXXXX) or a full URL.
NOTE: Customers will see the "grww.in" domain when they scan the QR code if you choose to use a short url.

If the order doesn’t have a QR code yet, the first flow creates one and save the SVG and PNG url in the Order metafield.
When the same order is fulfilled, You can trigger the “Order QR Code” action again from Shopify flow to update the destination.
- QR Code Title: Ideally Order Name.
- Destination URL: Order fulfilment tracking url.
- Use Short URL: Has no effect

The second flow simply updates the title and destination of the QR Code. This means the QR code remains dynamic—there’s no need to reprint or recreate it if you want to change the destination.
This simple, automated process saves you time and keeps your QR codes up to date. Feel free to explore more flow templates for products, collections, orders, and customers!
